Why People Cheat in World of Warcraft
Why do people cheat in World of Warcraft? Its a good question and if we knew the answer to it, wed probably be able to do away with the legions of scammers and cheaters out there that use the game to humiliate and take the items of others. However, we dont. So the best we can do is understand how these scammers and cheaters strike and what kinds of consequences they face for doing so.
Foremost, the basic scam in World of Warcraft is to take the items of a fellow player by preteding to offer them something that you dont have or dont plan on giving them. This kind of scam arrives in many forms, including COD scams, alternate character scams or false crafting scams. And most of these scams are entirely bannable. However, because the game world is considered to be the property of Blizzard and all the items you play with are theirs as well, it is not considered illegal so long as the item stays within the game.
Flash forward a bit and look at the consequences of those people who sell and trade accounts offline and you have an entirely different story. When a player sells their account, they are actually selling Blizzards property, something that is considered stealing. Alternately, players who try to take the accounts of another player are committing fraud, yet another illegal act.
The basic rules are this: if it happens in the game, it is not illegal, only bannable. If it happens in real life, it is probably illegal. So, with that in mind, it makes a lot more sense as to why so many people feel justified in scamming their fellow players in the game. After all, the worst thing that can happen to them is they get banned from the game. They arent putting much time or effort into the game to start with, right, so what does a ban do? Not much.
This is why you must watch out for scammers and cheaters. These people are too lazy to play the game themselves and ultimately are unwilling to put the time in that you have. They know that what theyre doing is okay in the eyes of the law and so they construct elaborate means to complete their scams without losing their accounts and feel okay with it.
The only thing you can do is to educate yourself in the means that scammers and cheaters use. If a scammer spends their entire time online trying to figure out how to scam someone rather than actually playing the game, you should spend at least a little bit of time trying to figure out how they scam someone, so you can enjoy the game.
