Types of Vinyl Decals and Its Uses
As the concept of jazzy and funky cars gains momentum, more people are applying graphics to their cars and vehicles. For auto applications, high quality vinyl is used that is usually used in making signs. Vinyl used as wraps and stickers comes in different colors, prices and quality. There are three types of vinyl material that is used for different applications- Calendared, Intermediate and Cast.
Calendared Vinyl:
This is the cheapest available and thus does not last for too many years. The liquid material after being poured in a mold is stretched for uniformity. As it is stretched, it loses the strength and durability features and becomes prone to cracks, color fades fast. This vinyl material is best suited to make banners and stickers as they are not required for long durations. This is suited for things that last up to just 1 year.
Intermediate Vinyl:
This is a mid grained vinyl which falls in between calendared vinyl and cast vinyl as far as quality is concerned. It has higher durability and lasts around 5 years before starting to crack and fade. This is mostly used for decals and wraps but sometimes, bubbles and buckles with constant exposure to all weathers. It is not recommended for contour surfaces and works well only on flat surfaces.
Cast Vinyl:
With a thickness of 2 millimeter, this is the best vinyl to use. With proper thickness, it can be applied to any surface and gets easily molded on any contour surface. It adheres well to any rivet making it the most popular one to use as wraps and decals. For any auto wrap whether trucks, cars or even boats, cast vinyl is resistant to extreme weather, water and heat. With high life expectancy and ability to mold itself to all surface and contours, this is the best choice.
Decals make the vehicle look attractive and beautiful. These colorful wraps are also used as advertising mobile billboards as they can attract more attention on the road.
Other vinyl materials can perforate or crack but cast vinyl due to its thickness, stays the same for longer. There are many organizations, which specialize in customizing car and vehicle wraps, while there are standard wraps which can be directly applied. With better technology and new adhesives, vinyl decals are easily applied and removed. No longer does it spoil the finish and body paint, but can be stuck on easily.
