Truck Design - Materials - Propulsion and Fuel

Many people believe that the Trucking Industry is one of those old stodgy sectors of our economy where there are few if any new innovations. Well, let me blast that myth right off the highway here and now. Why you ask? Well we are witnessing a whole new era in Aerodynamic Designs in the Trucking Industry right now.

In fact, we are seeing similar designs with Motor Coach Truck Combos and Mobile Command Centers. This is propelling efficiencies in the transportation sector and is being caused by higher fuel costs. The industry wants to remain efficient and is using Lighter Materials and even looking at innovations in the Future of Truck Tires.

Of course that is not all, we see changes in all the sub-sectors too, such as in changes in the Future of Truck Washes, maintenance procedures and high-tech engines too.

Fuel and Propulsion Innovations in the Trucking Industry

There are many companies working on research and development for future motors for trucks. Caterpillar Engine Technologies and other major manufacturers are hard at work designing Future Motors and it is not just the motors themselves that they are looking at. Some are considering Electrical System Re-Designs from top to bottom.

Part of the reason for these innovative changes are environmental in nature and mandated by the DOT and EPA thus manufacturers are looking at anyway to increase performance and fuel efficiency, while Preventing Pollution. There are a number of ways to do this such as through Oil and Lubrication.

Many forward looking companies like Eaton along with major customers of trucks such as UPS and FedEx are considering Fuel Cell Trucks for the future. There are also huge new project going on with motor designs to take advantage of Bio Diesel and Bio Fuels. Still many truck manufactures are now adding On-Board Generators to prevent all-night idling at the truck stops to help save on fuel, reduce pollution and comply with regulations.

The Future Theories on Propulsion are about as imaginative as those writing the sequels to the Star Wars trilogies. So if someone out there thinks that the Trucking Industry is lagging in innovation or that it is a stodgy old industry, best think again.
