Truck Insurance - Hazardous Materials Regulations & Incident Reporting

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Safety is always a priority for drivers. This is especially true for those transporting hazardous materials. Strict adherence to federal and state hazmat regulations is imperative. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in stiff fines and penalties, including being barred from working with commercial transports.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires that all trucks transporting hazardous materials have this fact clearly marked for other drivers. Drivers must always be in compliance with state and local traffic regulations.

When an accident takes place involving hazardous materials, it is important to notify all of the proper authorities. While it is important to notify your truck insurance provider as soon as possible, they are usually one of the last agencies that should be contacted. After emergency services have been contacted, but no later than 12 hours following the accident, the first agency you should contact is the Department of Transportation (DOT) National Response Center (NRC), followed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) if the incident involves etiologic agents.

These agencies should be immediately contacted in the following instances:

-A person is killed.
-A person receives an injury requiring hospitalization.
-There in an evacuation of the general public for one hour or more.
-A major transportation route is blocked or inaccessible for more than one hour.
-Fire, breakage, spillage, or possibly contamination occurs with a radioactive cargo.
-The spill of a marine pollutant occurs in a quantity greater than 450 L (119 gallons) of liquid material or 400 kg (882 lbs.) of solid material.
-The driver deems that there is a threat to life not covered in the previous criteria.

The first report will be made by telephone. The NRC reporting number is (800) 424-8802, and the CDC reporting number is (800) 232-0124. It is important to have these numbers available at all times. Be sure to have all information prepared before calling. The information needed in this report will be:

1. Name of Reporter.
2. Name and address of person represented by reporter.
3. Phone number where reporter can be contacted.
4. Date, time, and location of incident.
5. The extent of injury, if any.
6. Class or division, proper shipping name, and quantity of hazardous materials involved if that information is immediately available.
7. The nature of the incident and whether a threat to life still exists at the scene.

The second report that needs to be filed will be DOT Form F 5800.1. It must be submitted within 30 days. In addition to the above circumstances, this form must be submitted after the following events:

-The unintentional release or discharge of hazardous materials or waste.
-A specification cargo tank with a capacity of 1,000 gallons or greater containing any hazardous material suffers structural damage to the lading retention system or damage that requires repair to a system intended to protect the lading retention system, even if there is no release of hazardous material.
-Undeclared hazardous materials are discovered.

Get Those Grins: 5 Ways to Arouse Your Employees and Get Them Hyper

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

As a manager strides into the office among the employees, that manager has the power to positively shift the outlook of the employee for the entire day. You, as manager, are the most vital well-spring of motivation and morale among your employees.

Words, gestures, even the expression on your face spell the difference in how an employee perceives your opinion of them. These unconscious actions tell the employee how you feel about them, what they mean to you and how valuable they are to you as a manager and to the organization.

Letting the employee feel needed and appreciated is a key factor to maintaining maximum employee morale and motivation. If your employees feel that they play a key role in the company by the work they provide, then they are much more likely to say that they like their job and to strive to better themselves at that job. For many, feeling valued is just as important as high pay, and promotions.

Build zest with these tactics:

1.Let them feel your presence. Coming to work and announcing your arrival is a great way to motivate employees and put a smile on their face first hour of the day. Striding through the doors and simply saying good morning with a smile on your face can make all the difference in the world.

2. Verbal Acknowledgement. This kind of commendation doesnt have to be over dramatic or exaggerated, most times showing respect for your employees by saying simple things like please and thank you are easy and effective ways to motivate your employees. Simply saying you did a great job when the employee deserves it is sure fire way that verbal praise can work to motivate employees.

3. Lay clear expectations. Communicating deadlines, milestones, and job objectives are essential to completing company mandates efficiently. Sometimes these things are reported very well but they may change. Usually these changes are not discussed in detail and therefore it causes employees to feel that they are either not important enough to be told why the changes are taking place, or that the manager has made a mistake. Neither of these thoughts will lead to a motivated employee. One way to prevent this is to always get some kind of feedback from the employee about the job so that you are certain that he knows what is expected. If there is a change in a project, inform the employee why. Keep them part of the solution to the problem.

4. Provide employees regular feedback. Let the employee know when he is doing a commendable job. On the flip side, let the employee know when you are not pleased with the outcome and state your reasons. This is a great opportunity to let the employee know how they can do better next time. Ask the employee if there is anything that you as a manager can do to help with the change. Solicit feedback from the employee. Talk it over and enjoy a real discussion. This will make the employee feel like you are not offend about the job, but that you are genuinely concerned and willing to help rectify the problem.

5. Generate consequences. Make sure to not only tell the employee when you are satisfied with the work, but also provide recognition for marvelous work. A personally written thank you card is an effective and inexpensive way to do this. When an employee fails to meet company expectations, it is demotivating to other workers, after all, they may think, If he isnt doing it why should I? That is why it is so important to broadcast consequences for those who do not perform as expected. Be consistent with consequences among the staff.

Employees will love working with you and you will enjoy working with them as you take a few minutes out of your day to butter their emotions. Spend time with employees during and after work. Demonstrate that you care and value them as important members of the company.

Bean Bag Chairs Compared to Regular Furniture

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Bean bag chairs still remain one of the worlds many mysteries. How did they come about, who or what inspired the shape, are they safe, and where can I get one? To answer these questions and more we need to look into the 1960s when this design was first uncovered. Created by an Italian design and first called a “Sacco”, the bean bag chairs became greatly popular and then mass-produced. Today this design is still remains basically the same with exception to the fabric, filling, the original headrest and additional safety features.

Bean bag chairs are the only furniture other than plastic patio chairs that can be easily relocated. This makes them ideal for flats, the poolside and any other outdoor area. (Check the waterproof qualities on the tag.) Also ideal for use on new carpet or floor lining as these clever designs wont leave a dent in your floor. Bean bag chairs can be found in every color of the rainbow with so many designs and colors to choose from including pet beanbag beds, leather, denim, fur and suede fabrics. There is a design and color to suit any home with the exception being a too classic home may not necessarily suit a bean bag, try the den or playroom instead. There are also bean bags fabrics that are waterproof and can repel liquids that may them ideal for pets or little children. One of the fun things about having a bean bag chairs is deciding where to put it.

These wonderful creations are also great at saving you money. Why spend thousands on a new lounge suite when you can buy modern, furniture set in the few hundreds. Bean bag chairs can be found filled already or with just the case so they will need to be filled. If this is the case then you will need a helper. They can hold the bag open while you pull the polystyrene balls in. Stand away from a door as even the slightest of breeze can cause a small snowstorm in your lounge. Make sure to stuff the bag incredibly full if you suffer from a bad back or sore neck. To check that the bag is filled enough, check that there are still 6 inches between the widest point of the bean bags. If you prefer a loose comfortable fit only fill the bag of the way for a fuller fit try filling it as close to the top as you can while making sure it can still close.

Decorate a room with bean bags, they are affordable, bright, welcoming, cosy and fashionable. All your friends will be over to enjoy trying out your new bean bags. To get the perfect shape from your new bean bag chairs there are a few ways to go about this. Sit in the middle of the bag, not too high or too low. The bag will provide a supported yet comfortable seat. Make a bean bags the main feature of the room if you are going for a modern look. Brighten up any dull room with a colored beanbag. Ideal as gifts for students leaving for uni, they can fit into any space are lightweight and easy to move. They can blend in tastefully with any room if the right color and fabric have been selected. When it comes to bean bag chairs and children, there are a few safety issues to be considered here. While beanbags are safe they pose a risk if loose beads escape from the bean bags. Try to find a bean bag chairs supplier that will line you bean bags when they make it with a safety liner. This ensures that the beans will be extra secure in the beanbag.

Wheeling Your Way to Car Insurance

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Driving your first car has a thrill of its own. With the world moving at a super-fast pace, we cannot afford to loll about or stroll here and there. We need speed in our daily activities. The jet plane, the telephone, and the Internet have changed the speed of the world forever. To pause would be a risky decision. The idea is to keep on moving; and moving fast. Thus, the luxury of yesterday has become a necessity today. Henry Ford may have pioneered the idea that anybody could own a set of wheels, but his dream has truly become reality today. Now, large segments of people can afford to buy and maintain a car. Here is yet another invention that has made itself at home in the world of today.

However, there are certain dangers associated with owning and driving a car. Is it any wonder that wannabe drivers have to go through rigorous classes and an extensive practical and theoretical test before they can get their license? Is it any wonder that governments the world over invest so much money in the upkeep of the roads? Should we be surprised that signs abound for drivers on roads of all kinds?

Accidents can happen at any time. We can never really be prepared for them. But we can do our best to ensure that accidents do not happen. We can try to maintain lanes while driving. We can desist from road rage. We can avoid driving after a drink. We can make an effort to obey traffic signals and road signs. We can make sure that our cars are in top working order. There are so many precautions that we can take in order to make sure that we are not part of the next road accident. But sometimes even the best drivers have failures of judgment.

Hence, it is best to apply for insurance to protect your car in case of an untoward incident. An insurance policy for your car would stand you in good stead in case of a sudden accident. In case your car receives major scratches, the insurance policy would cover the expenses. This can be a great thing especially if the scratches were not your fault. Some companies also offer third party insurance. Check that out as well when you go and meet your insurance agent.

If this is your first car, you might find the entire task of finding the right car insurance quite a bit confounding. However, this is not rocket science. Once you do the rounds of a few insurance companies, you should become quite adept at insurance-speak. Just make sure that you do a lot of shopping around. Desist from choosing the first policy that is offered to you. Surf the Internet and find some insurance sites. Look at the car insurance policy comparisons that many of these sites offer. Familiarize yourself with all the jargon that your insurance agent is going to bombard you with. All this will be good preparation. So when you do go to buy that policy, finding the best deal will be an easy job.

Five Tips For Working In A Group

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

In college, youll find ways to motivate yourself that you never even knew existed. You will develop confidence in your abilities and you will perform well under pressure. No task will appear daunting to you, because youre going to develop into a well-oiled machine that devours academic adversity like there is no tomorrow.

Then, as if a cruel joke was being played on you, youll be asked to do the unthinkable and complete an assignment in a group setting.

Youll ask yourself why, how could this be and for what reason? Youll remind yourself that this isnt high school, but it wont matter. The group project has to be done. Theres no getting around it.

Here are five tips to help you get through working on a group assignment.

1. Try to choose group members that you know and respect.

If you can, choose to work with people who you know can perform. If you havent had social contact with anyone in the room before, look for interested people who appear eager and curious. Dont just sit back and let the groups form without you. Jump into the fray and hop in a group with people who seem like theyre ready to get to work.

2. Delegate responsibilities early

As soon as you get your assignment, start dividing up the responsibilities. Dont schedule eight group meetings within the next week, let people work at their own pace and according to their own schedules. Just get verbal commitments from your group members, and reconvene when everyone has completed their tasks.

3. Dont go first

If you have to give a presentation, dont go first. Buy more time to complete the assignment. Wait and see what other groups do, so that you can differentiate your approach from the norm.

4. Be prepared for drama and try to preempt it

Issues will come up. Someone will go AWOL and be incommunicado. Get phone numbers and email addresses before anything crazy happens. Discover the weak link in the group, and give them the smallest piece of the puzzle to work on. If you have a flake in your group, distribute their workload among the remaining group members before anything crazy happens.

5. If all else fails, do everything yourself.

Some people get bitter when group projects go bad, and the bulk of the work falls on their shoulders. If faced with a worst case scenario (i.e. nobodys doing a darn thing), embrace the opportunity to take control of the project. If youre stuck with incompetent group members, why would you want your grade to be a reflection of their efforts. If you do everything yourself, you can control the final outcome. Sure it might stink that no one else is helping, but you need to worry about your own grade. Its better to do the project all by yourself, and know that its excellent. You dont want to have to cross your fingers and hope for the best. Just take control and make sure you succeed.

Group projects arent cool, but they are necessary. Rarely in this world will you ever work in complete solitude. You will need to cooperate with others to achieve your objectives. So embrace the opportunity to delegate. Take a leadership role, work with productive people, and be prepared for uncertainty. If all else fails, do everything yourself so that you know its done right.

Create A Marketing Kit That Educates

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I get these calls from time to time. . .”Can you make me a brochure?” Many business owners have been sold on the notion that they need a tri-fold brochure or they are not in business. Forget it…everybody’s got one and no one uses it.

Your potential clients need an education. They need to know how you are different. (The typical tri-fold brochure simply confirms that you are the same.)

Every small business should create the following pieces of information and format them in a way that allows them be printed inexpensively and updated often. I like to call this approach, the Marketing Kit. Your marketing kit starts with several professionally printed pieces that are the framework for up to 10 or 12 different educational documents. The core components are:

1. A pocket folder - A multi-use workhorse, this piece alone, if designed well, can send the message that you are in business to stay. (This one will cost a little but it has many uses)

2. A marketing template - This should be a professionally printed piece that carries your logo and contact information but is different than your letterhead. This is the base piece then for the following pages that insert into your pocket folder. Your actual marketing files can be MSWord type documents that are laser printed. This gives you the ability to change and update your content and also allows you to tailor your marketing kit content to specific prospects.

Some combination of the following pages should be created for your marketing kit.

The Difference Page - Hit them with how you are different and shower them with benefits of doing business with you. Don’t tell them what you do. I like to keep this one to the top 3 or 4 things that you do that your target market will value. Think benefits that are unique

A list of products and services - Okay, now tell them what you do or what you offer, but make sure do it the context of how they can benefit from your products or services.

Case Studies - Pick representative clients or industries and outline how your product or service solved someone else’s challenge. People learn in different ways and case studies allow them to see themselves getting relief. I think this format works well. State the situation, the problem, your solution, the result. Over time you can collect more and more of these and draw upon the ones that fit an industry or problem that in relevant to your prospect.

Testimonials - Get quotes from real live clients and create a page titled - “See what others have to say about us.” These quotes can be some of the strongest selling tools you have. New technologies make it easy to create audio and video testimonials too.

Process Description - Show them how you do what you do. Create detailed checklist and flow charts that show them how you keep your promise. In many cases you have these anyway but by making them part of your marketing you can demonstrate how much more professional your organization is. These also help you justify why you charge a premium for your services. Many people underestimate how much really goes into delivering a quality product or service. So show them.

Your Story - Many companies have interesting or even gut wrenching histories. Tell them your story in an open, honest, and entertaining way and you will win their hearts as well as their heads.

FAQs - Compile a list of the questions your prospects and clients ask most often (don’t forget the ones they never ask, but should) and answer them for this page.

Ideal Client Description - In some cases, a page that describes the type of person or business that you can help the most can allow a prospect to select or deselect themselves.

There are other pages that may or may not make sense for your particular business situation and the kit can and should be constantly grown and updated as you gather more clients and refine your core messages.

After you complete your kit, you may wonder if anyone will actually read all of that information. The answer is probably not everyone, but many will skim and find what they were looking for as people learn in many different ways. You kit allows them to read the same message, essentially, packaged in a number of formats.

All of the above pieces can, in many cases, be word processed files that are laser printed onto the template I described above.

This format allow for very inexpensive printing and a great deal of flexibility when you need to update, change or even personalize your marketing materials.

Your marketing kit is not meant to be used as something your send out to a list of suspects, it is your lead conversion tool to be used ahead of or after a lead or referral asks for more information.

How To File An Auto Insurance Claim

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

If you find yourself having an accident, whether it is your fault or not, you still need to follow some guidelines to file your auto insurance claim. Before you even drive your car with a new insurance policy, you need to know what your auto insurance company expects from you in the case of an accident. If you do not understand anything, you need to question your agent to receive an explanation.

In minor accidents, some people worry about filing a claim because they do not want their car insurance rate to go up. The first thing to do in an accident is exchange your name and telephone number with the other party. If you live in a state, where auto insurance is mandatory, look at the cards and copy all information about the person and the insurance company. This information is very important when any accident occurs regardless of the damage.

You should always ask for witnesss names and telephone numbers to give to your car insurance company. This is vital if the other party questions any charges being made or charges being made against you. You need to file an accident report even if the other person says they will pay for your damages. Do not ever ask someone not file an auto insurance claim. The accident report is extremely important when you submit a car insurance claim.

The next step is to notify your car insurance company, give them all the details, and submit the accident report along with witnesss name and the other partys information. The time is critical since a claim adjuster needs to verify who was at fault and what the next step is to take. If the accident is not your fault, you may file a report of damages to the other car insurance company and pay no deductible as if you use your auto insurance and pay the deductible.

Never sign a release form for anything until you are completely satisfied with all the repairs and medical bills if any. There may be other factors to determine when signing a release such as wages loss, mental state and rental car costs to name a few. The auto insurance company will try to get you to sign as quickly as possible, hold your ground.

When filing an auto insurance claim, consider bodily injuries, damages to your car, appraisal clause, which helps with any disputes, and any other things that may become known after an accident. Your insurance company should work with you when you have problems with the other car insurance company. Most of the time car insurance companies can work things out without needing any type of legal advice.

Tips on How to Avoid Bankruptcy

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Sure there is one highly efficient and valid tip that can help you avoid bankruptcy. What is it? Well, staying out of debt. And yes, we all know that saying it is much easier than actually doing it. But for sure, this is the surest way to avoid bankruptcy and its damaging effects. But how? Is there any solid solution to avoid debt, when your finances are sinking? Well, staying out of debt requires a long term strategy and planning and therefore, there is no simple solution in this case. Sadly, the world and its individuals are full of debts, the society is based on debts and everything is basically built on debts. When starting and building on debt, it is harder to avoid bankruptcy.

Still, some individuals manage to avoid bankruptcy, and yet, solve their debt problem. How? Well, there are certain solutions that might work from case to case. But these solutions imply a very realistic evaluation and strategy. And here is how it should work in order to avoid bankruptcy.

First of all, you need to start from the idea that in order to avoid bankruptcy, you need to play fair, honest and to accept the undesirable situation you are in. And you should start from making a list of all your assets, a complete list that could clearly illustrate all your belongings, regardless if they are valuable or quite small. And by small items, you can understand antiques, works of art, even electronic supplies that are of greater value. Furniture might also be added on the list if its value overcomes $50.

As you might expect, the next step when wanting to avoid bankruptcy is to evaluate all the items on your list. But do not treat this step superficially because this will not help you avoid bankruptcy.
Estimate everything properly, ask your friends and family for second opinions and, most importantly, think about the price for your items when wanting to sell them in available locations, such as a yard sale or a shop. Still, when you are on your way to avoid bankruptcy, you need to remember if your items are completely yours or if you are still leasing them.

Sure, you can not possibly live without any items. But in order to avoid bankruptcy, you can sell valuable items and buy used items, in order to eliminate small debts. Simply getting into more and more debts in order to avoid bankruptcy is not the solution anybody is looking for when wanting to avoid bankruptcy.

When wanting to avoid bankruptcy, all items, all possessions, matter. Some find it hard to believe that selling only a part of their belongings can help them avoid bankruptcy. But the fact is that without making a list and planning, no one can know the implications and solutions of the processes and actions that are meant to avoid bankruptcy. Good luck!

Online Medical Billing Services - A Few Tips To Help You Avoid Medical Billing Services Fraudsters

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Ads for online medical billing services are sprouting all over the Internet and people are falling for it all the time. These ads lure consumers with false promises of substantial income even though theyre working from home either fulltime or part-time. Sometimes even, such ads include catch words like no experience required or money back guarantee. And then right at the bottom of these so-called online medical billing services ad is a toll-free number which you are made to call for more information.

Majority of online medical billing services turn out to be nothing more than scams. You can usually identify scammers because once you make that call, they charge you a fee of $300 to $500 for the information they provide you. They might even go so much as to provide you with a software program to help you process claims as well as a list of potential clients.

However, reality soon takes a sharp turn. Few consumers who pay for online medical billing services opportunities actually find clients, let alone make any money. The competition is cutthroat so the possibility of earning a substantial income (as promised) is a steep challenge. In addition, many medical offices process their own claims so what do they need your services for?

So how can you, the consumer, protect yourself against these fraudulent online medical billing services fraudsters?

To avoid losing money on a bogus online medical billing services opportunity, the first thing you need to do is ask the promoter to give the names of many previous purchasers. This referral tactic can come very handy when you want to find out the reputation of the company you are applying for.

Make sure that you get as many names as you can choose from. Some online medical billing services scammers are smartening up. When the consumer asks them this question, they give you two names. You have to be wary of this because these contacts might turn out to be hired people paid to give favorable testimonials.

The second most important thing to do to avoid fraudulent online medical billing services is to consult with organizations for medical claims processors or medical billing businesses. It might also help if you consult with doctors in your community. Ask them the following questions:

* How much of a need is there for this type of work? Since they are in the field themselves then they ought to be able to give the right and proper answer to your question, minus embellishments or whitewashing.

* What kind of training is required for online medical billing services?

* Do they know anything about the promotion or promoter youre interested in?

The answers to the above question could be material to your finding out whether or not that ad you are responding to is yet another fraudulent scam trying to entice you into purchasing online medical billing services.

Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Can Provide Relief From Crushing Debt

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

In todays society consumers are taking on more debt than ever. In many instances, the debt becomes too much and they can no longer pay their monthly payments. In situations like this, it may be necessary to file bankruptcy.

It is important to note that bankruptcy will not wipe out all of your debt. Therefore, it is important that you have a full understanding of how bankruptcy works before filing. Chapter 13 bankruptcy was put in place to help consumers pay off their debt in approximately three to five years. While working with a bankruptcy court, creditors are only able to collect money through the courts.

Chapter 13 bankruptcy allows consumers to keep their personal assets and property. However, the creditors will not receive the full amount they are owed. Instead, they are able to obtain a portion of the debt, which is more than they would be able to collect, should the consumer default on their debt.

It is important to note that not all creditors will agree to the terms set up by the credit counselor. They have a period of 45 days to either reject or accept the terms. If the creditors feel they will not gain enough from the terms, they have an additional 90 days to file a claim with the bankruptcy court.

Someone who is looking to file Chapter 13 bankruptcy should take into consideration their future financial needs. Chapter 13 bankruptcy will remain on a persons credit for 10 years. Therefore, if they need to obtain any type of credit in that 10 year period, they must first receive permission from a Chapter 13 trustee. Often times, this will hamper efforts to obtain new credit.

Generally speaking, people have the best intentions of paying off their debt. Before they know it, the credit cards are maxed out and they can no longer pay their monthly payments. In situations such as this, bankruptcy can help to eliminate their debt.

In order to file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you must still have a source of income. Therefore, if you have lost your job or source of monthly income, then Chapter 13 bankruptcy is not the route you should go. Chapter 13 bankruptcy is ideal for people and small business that need additional time to repay the debt. When filing Chapter 13, you are able to retain your personal property.

When looking to file Chapter 13, you must meet certain guidelines. For instance, any person with unsecured debt, such as credit cards, must be less then $307,675. Likewise, secured debt, such as a mortgage, must be less than $922,975. Debt such as criminal fines, child support and alimony, court ordered restitution and student loans may not be included in Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

No one likes to think they may have to file bankruptcy. However, there are some situations in which bankruptcy can help people continue to live a normal life. Chapter 13 bankruptcy will not eliminate a persons overall debt. However, it will help them to create a repayment plan that can be extended over a number of years. So in some situations, Chapter 13 bankruptcy may be the perfect solution to an otherwise less than perfect situation.
